INTRODUCTION
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET contains Progesterone which belongs to the group of medicines called Steroid hormones. It is used as a supplementation to support embryo implantation and early pregnancy in women taking part in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatment program for infertile women.
It is also used from second trimester of pregnancy to prevent pregnant women from going into early labor and treats pre-menstrual syndrome (occurs during the 7 to 10 days before monthly period) and post-childbirth depression.
Prior to SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET treatment, your doctor might perform a physical examination including special attention to the breasts, abdomen and pelvic organs.
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with undiagnosed vaginal or urinary tract bleeding, miscarriage with suspected tissue still in the womb, known or suspected cancer of the breast or reproductive tract, blood clots or porphyria disorders (a group of genetic or acquired disorders of certain enzymes).
Before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have liver, heart or kidney problems, fits, migraine, asthma, diabetes, depression or if you are about to undergo any planned surgery. Â
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless advised by the doctor. It is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women, children and adolescents (below 18 years of age).
The most common side effects of using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET are drowsiness, stomach discomfort or pain, breast pain, irritation or itching at the insertion site and unusual tiredness. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms deteriorate.
USES OF SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET
It is used:
As a supplementation to support embryo implantation and early pregnancy in women taking part in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatment program for infertile women
From second trimester of pregnancy to prevent pregnant women from going into early labor
To treat pre-menstrual syndrome and post-childbirth depression
HOW SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET WORKS
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET helps prepare your uterus to receive and maintain a fertilized egg. It also works by adjusting the hormonal balance within the body, which gets imbalanced during pre-menstrual syndrome or related problems.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET as advised by your physician. It is for vaginal use only. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after each use. Insert SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET between the lips of the vagina and push it upwards deep into the vagina. You may find it easier to administer if you are lying down or in squatting position.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you based upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET unless your doctor advises you to stop.
SIDE EFFECTS OF SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET
COMMON
Headache, drowsiness
Stomach discomfort or pain, bloating
Nausea, vomiting
Breast pain or tenderness
Acne, hot flushes
Mood swings, irritability, changes in libido
Location irritation or itching at the site of insertion
Unusual tiredness or weakness
Weight gain
Swelling face, ankles and feet (oedema)
Insomnia
Increase blood pressure (in susceptible individuals)
Loss or gain of body facial or scalp hair or brown spots on exposed skin (melasma)
RARE
Stop using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Possible clots in the legs, heart or lungs (pain in the calves or chest, sudden breathlessness or coughing blood)
Possible clots in the brain or eye (severe headache or vomiting, dizziness or changes in vision or speech, weakness or numbness of an arm or leg)
Worsening of depression
Allergic reaction (itchy skin rash)
Migraine
Jaundice (yellow skin or the whites of the eyes)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea:
Take regular sips of a cold drink. Have ginger or peppermint tea. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If you still feel nauseous, consult your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to eat smaller meals more frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If you stomach still aches, consult your doctor.
Headache:
Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Tiredness:
Drink plenty of fluid and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise and follow regular sleep schedule. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you are pregnant unless advised by the doctor. Consult your doctor before using it.
BREASTFEEDING
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use during breast-feeding. Consult your doctor before using it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET.
ALCOHOL
Before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you consume alcohol as it might act as a risk factor for preterm labour and may worsen the dizziness or light-headedness due to this medicine.
KIDNEY
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney dysfunction. Consult your doctor before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET.
LIVER
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients who have or had severe liver problems. SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems like jaundice (yellow skin and whites of the eyes). Consult your doctor before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET.
ALLERGY
Do not use SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET if you are allergic to Progesterone or any other ingredients of this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any other substances like foods, preservatives or dyes.
LUNGS
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients who had or have blood clot in the lungs (pulmonary embolism). It should be used with caution in patients with asthma. Consult your doctor before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET.
HEART DISEASE
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with cardiac dysfunction. Consult your doctor before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET.
OTHERS
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
Have undiagnosed vaginal or urinary tract bleeding
Have known or suspected cancer of the breast, womb lining or reproductive tract
Have porphyria disorders (a group of genetic or acquired disorders of certain enzymes)
Have or had blood clots in the legs, eyes or somewhere else in the body
Have thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the vessel wall associated with blood clot)
Have a miscarriage and your doctor suspects some tissue is still in the uterus or pregnancy outside the womb
Before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
Have fits
Have migraine
Have a history of depression
Have diabetes (high blood sugar)
Have hyperlipidemia (disturbed cholesterol or lipid metabolism)
Are about to have any surgery
Use in pediatrics:
SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
There is no proper information about the use of SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before using it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug interactions:
Before using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
Medicines used to treat fits (Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, aminoglutethimide)
Medicines used to treat bacterial infections (Ex. rifampicin, rifabutin)
Other vaginal products (such as antifungal products)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally swallow or use too much of SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms after accidental ingestion includes nausea, vomiting, euphoria or menstrual cramps.

If you forget to use a dose of SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET, use it as soon as you remember. However, omit the missed dose if it’s almost time for the next one. Do not use SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET two times to make up for the missed dose.
Can SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET be stopped on my own?
Continue using SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET until your doctor tells you to stop, unless you experience any unwanted effects, worsening of your condition or any new symptoms. Stopping SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET abruptly may cause increased anxiety, moodiness and increased sensibility to fits.
What if I accidentally swallow SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET?
If you accidentally swallow SUSTEN VT 200MG TABLET or take it by mouth, contact your doctor or go to a nearby hospital immediately. You may experience symptoms like euphoria, nausea, vomiting or menstrual cramps.
