INTRODUCTION

SUSTANON is a combination of Testosterone Propionate, Testosterone Phenylpropionate, Testosterone Decanoate, and Testosterone Isocaproate that belongs to the group of medicines called Androgens. It is used in adult men as a testosterone replacement to treat various health problems associated with primary/secondary male hypogonadism due to lack of testosterone. It is also used as a supportive therapy (masculinization) in female-to-male transsexuals.

Male hypogonadism is a condition in which there is a lack of production of certain hormones such as testosterone in men which plays an important role in masculine growth and development during puberty, adequate quantity sperm, or both. Masculinizing hormone therapy is a type of therapy used to induce the physical changes in the body caused by male hormones during puberty (secondary sex characteristics) to promote matching one’s gender identity and body.

Testosterone Propionate, Testosterone Phenylpropionate, Testosterone Decanoate, and Testosterone Isocaproate are androgens that works by binding and activating the testosterone receptors in the target tissue, thereby producing the effects of natural testosterone in the body.

SUSTANON is not recommended for use if you are allergic to testosterone, peanut, soya. It is also not recommended for use in patients with a history/suspected to have/ had tumour in prostate gland or breast. It should be used with caution in patients with lung cancer, chronic lung disease, pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs), severe liver disease, cancer in kidneys, severe kidney diseases, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction (heart attack), and or other severe heart diseases.

SUSTANON is not recommended for use in pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children (below 3 years of age). The common side effects associated with the use of SUSTANON are signs of increased red blood cells and haemoglobin (tiredness, headache, blurred vision, joint pain, itching, numbness and/or tingling), or weight gain. Consult your doctor if any of the symptom worsens or prolong for a long period of time.

HOW SUSTANON WORKS

SUSTANON helps in treating male hypogonadism, where Testosterone Propionate, Testosterone Phenylpropionate, Testosterone Decanoate, and Testosterone Isocaproate works by binding and activating the testosterone receptors in the target tissue which results in producing the effects of natural testosterone in the body.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

SUSTANON will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse as an intramuscular injection deeply into a muscle (buttock, upper leg, or upper arm). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF SUSTANON
COMMON
Signs of increased red blood cells and haemoglobin such as tiredness, shortness of breath, headache, blurred vision, sleep disorders, joint pain, itching, numbness and/or tingling.
Weight gain
RARE

Consult your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving SUSTANON:

Signs of blood clot in the vein such as painful swelling of one leg, sudden change in colour (paleness or bluish discoloration) of the skin, sudden breathlessness, sudden cough with or without blood, sudden chest pain, dizziness, severe light headedness, severe stomach pain, or sudden loss of vision
Signs of masculinization such as lowering of the voice, increase in body or facial hair
Effect of the medicine felt too strong/weak with associated signs such as frequent erections in men
Signs of edema with or without congestive heart failure in renal or hepatic insufficiency patients such as swelling of arms or legs
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Tiredness:

Drink plenty of fluid and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise and follow regular sleep schedule. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

Headache:

Take rest and drink plenty of water. Avoid taking alcohol and skipping meals. Do not strain your eyes by watching screen for long time. Consult your doctor if the condition persists for long or gets worsened.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY

SUSTANON is not recommended for use during pregnancy and in women planning to get pregnant. Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

BREASTFEEDING

SUSTANON is not recommended for use in breastfeeding mothers. Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

SUSTANON is unlikely to affect the ability to drive or operate machines. Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

KIDNEY

SUSTANON should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases such as cancer in kidneys, renal insufficiency, or other severe kidney diseases. Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

LIVER

SUSTANON should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases such as  hepatic insufficiency, and other severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

ALLERGY

SUSTANON is not recommended for use if you are allergic to testosterone, peanut, soya, or any other ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

LUNGS

SUSTANON should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases such as lung cancer, chronic lung disease, asthma, pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs). Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

HEART DISEASE

SUSTANON should be used with caution in patients with congestive heart failure (inability of heart to pump sufficient blood), myocardial infarction (heart attack), or other severe heart diseases. Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

OTHERS

SUSTANON is not recommended for use if you:

Have/had a history/suspected to have tumour in prostate gland or breast

Before receiving SUSTANON, inform your doctor if you:    

Have high blood pressure
Have diabetes mellitus
Have epilepsy (fits)
Have migraine or headaches
Have prostatic problems such as difficulty in passing urine
Have blood clotting problems such as thrombophilia (a disorder that increases the tendency of blood to clot and block blood vessels)
Are exposed to certain factors that may increase your risk of having blood clots in the veins such as previous blood clots in a vein, smoking, obesity, cancer, immobility, or if any of your immediate family member has the history blood clot in the leg, or any other organ at a young age (below 50 years), or increasing age
Have sleep apnoea (temporary stoppage of breathing while sleeping)
Have tumours such as bone cancer

Use in pediatrics:

SUSTANON is not recommended for use in children (below 3 years of age). Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

Use in geriatrics:

SUSTANON should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 68 years or above). Consult your doctor before receiving SUSTANON.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug Interaction:

Before receiving SUSTANON, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following:

Medicines used to control blood sugar levels Ex. insulin
Medicines to reduce blood clotting Ex. warfarin
Medicines used to treat epilepsy Ex. phenobarbital
Medicines that are used to treat seizures in children Ex. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)
Medicines used to treat diseases caused due to inflammation such as corticosteroids Ex. dexamethasone, prednisolone

Overdosage:

SUSTANON will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, if you experience any unusual symptoms such as polycythaemia (excess haemoglobin), or priapism (prolonged penal erection), consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Abuse of SUSTANON can cause serious health problems of the heart and blood vessels which can be fatal, mental health problems and/or the liver problems.
