STERON 0.35 TABLET contains Norethisterone, which belongs to a group of medicines called Progestogen-only contraceptive pills. It helps to prevent pregnancy.
Your doctor may recommend you take relevant tests and examinations to evaluate and monitor your condition.
STERON 0.35 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver or heart diseases or stroke. STERON 0.35 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with asthma, kidney disease, fits, diabetes, and migraine. STERON 0.35 TABLET should not be taken by pregnant and breastfeeding women. Specific side effects include depression and suicidal ideation. If you experience depression or mood changes, contact your physician as soon as possible.

Prevents pregnancy
HOW STERON 0.35 TABLET WORKS
STERON 0.35 TABLET works by thickening the cervical fluid that makes it difficult for the sperm to travel through, suppressing the hormones required for proliferation and fertilization of the ovary. As a result, it prevents pregnancy.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take STERON 0.35 TABLET as advised by your doctor. Take the medicine at the same time every day. Swallow the whole tablet with water at once.
SIDE EFFECTS OF STERON 0.35 TABLET
RARE
Stop taking STERON 0.35 TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Yellowing of the skin or white area of the eyes (jaundice)
Migraine headache for the very first time (a headache that usually restricts itself to one side of your head)
High blood pressure
Severe or sudden sharp chest pain
Shortness of breath
Change in eyesight
Difficulty in speaking, understanding, or swallowing
Collapse or faint
Suddenly weakness or numbness of body parts
Severe pain and swelling in one of your calves
Fits
Depression
Severe stomach pain
Symptoms of an allergic reaction such as asthma, wheezing or shortness of breath or skin rash, hives, itching, swelling of the face, lips or tongue causing difficulty in swallowing or breathing or fainting
Persistent pain in the head, chest, stomach, or legs
Swelling, warmth, and tenderness in the leg
Breast lumps
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
STERON 0.35 TABLET should not be taken by pregnant women as it may cause birth defects. It is also not recommended in women with a history of itching in the whole body or yellowish discolouration of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice) during a previous pregnancy and a history of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy in the fallopian tube rather than the womb). It should not be taken if you are planning for pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you have very high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia) during pregnancy.
BREASTFEEDING
STERON 0.35 TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding mothers as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor for advice.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use of STERON 0.35 TABLET does not affect the ability to drive or use machinery.
KIDNEY
STERON 0.35 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with any kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking STERON 0.35 TABLET.
LIVER
Patients with known liver diseases such as liver tumours or other severe chronic liver diseases that may result in bleeding in the stomach, viral hepatitis in the last six months and other types of jaundice such as Dubin-Johnson or Rotor syndrome should avoid taking STERON 0.35 TABLET. Tell your doctor if you’re suffering from liver problems.
ALLERGY
Use of STERON 0.35 TABLET is not recommended in patients allergic to norethisterone or lactose.
LUNGS
STERON 0.35 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases such as asthma or any such lung condition. Contact your doctor before taking STERON 0.35 TABLET.
HEART DISEASE
STERON 0.35 TABLET is not recommended in patients with heart diseases such as abnormal heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation), clots in the heart, heart attack, angina or disease of the heart valves and should be used with caution in other cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure or familial history of a heart attack. Contact your doctor before taking STERON 0.35 TABLET.
OTHERS
STERON 0.35 TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
Disorders of lipid (fat) metabolism
Unexplained vaginal bleeding
Lack of periods (amenorrhoea)
Inflamed veins (thrombophlebitis)
Blood clots in the legs, veins, lungs, or brain
Stroke
Cancer of the cervix, uterus, vagina, and breast
Oestrogen-dependent neoplasia (cancer responsive to female oestrogen hormones)
Otosclerosis (a condition that causes deafness)
Hormone-dependent cancer of the breast, cervix, vagina, and uterus
Before taking STERON 0.35 TABLET tell your doctor if you have:
Epilepsy
Multiple sclerosis
Porphyria
Tetany
Diabetes
Gallstones
Varicose veins
Carbohydrate intolerance
Migraine headache
Breast nodules, breast cancer or fibrocystic breast disease)
Ovarian cysts
Endometriosis
Sydenham’s chorea (jerky movements of face, hands and legs)
Contact lenses
Depression
Stomach upset or diarrhoea
Surgery
Overweight
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Diseased arteries (atherosclerosis)
High blood levels of cholesterol
Are over the age of 40
Fibroid uterus
Family history of breast, cervix, ovaries, endometrium, womb
Malabsorption syndrome
Familial history of stroke
Lactose intolerance
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking STERON 0.35 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
Anti-epileptic medicines (phenytoin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, primidone, topiramate, phenobarbital)
Antibiotics (doxycycline, rifampicin, rifabutin, ampicillin, oxacillin, sulfamethoxazole, and trimethoprim (medicines used to treat bacterial infections)
Rifabutin, rifampicin (medicines used to treat tuberculosis)
Antiviral medicines for treatment of HIV (ritonavir, nevirapine, nelfinavir)
Antifungal medicines (griseofulvin)
Medicines to treat narcolepsy or daytime sleep (modafinil)
Medicines that treat arthritis (medicines called corticosteroids) Ex. methylprednisolone.
Antidepressants Ex. amitriptyline (medicines used to treat depression)
Sedatives Ex. alprazolam (medicines used to induce sleep)
St John’s wort (medicines used to treat depression)
Phenobarbital (medicines used to treat sleeplessness, anxiety, epilepsy)
Medicines used to relieve the symptoms of allergy in hay fever
Medicines used to treat pain Ex. Phenylbutazone
Anti-migraine preparations Ex. ergotamine (medicines used for migraine)
Antacids (used to treat indigestion or heartburn)
Medicines used to treat high blood pressure Ex. guanethidine
Medicines to prevent blood clots Ex. warfarin
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of STERON 0.35 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness or enlargement, dizziness, fatigue, and vaginal bleeding.

Yes, STERON 0.35 TABLET may cause irregular periods and intermittent bleeding between periods or no periods at all. Contact your doctor if you notice a change in your periods.
How to take STERON 0.35 TABLET?
Take STERON 0.35 TABLET as advised by your doctor. You will have to take one pill a day starting from the first day of your next period. The day on which bleeding starts will be day one of your cycles. If you cannot start taking the tablets on the first day of your period, you may start to take them on any day up to the fifth day. Take it at nearly the same time each day. You will have to swallow the medicine with a glass of water.
What should I do if I forget to take a dose of STERON 0.35 TABLET?
If you miss a dose, take STERON 0.35 TABLET as soon as you can. Do not take two doses together.
In what conditions do I need to contact the doctor after taking STERON 0.35 TABLET?
After taking STERON 0.35 TABLET, if you experience symptoms like yellowish discolouration of your skin or eyes, one-sided headache (migraine), and high blood pressure, stop taking STERON 0.35 TABLET and consult your doctor immediately.
What should I do if I have had a miscarriage or an abortion?
You can start taking the pills immediately after a miscarriage or abortion.
Does this pill work if I have a stomach upset or diarrhoea?
It may not work if you are sick or suffering from diarrhoea. Continue taking the medicine at regular doses and intervals, but do not completely rely on it during this phase and use other methods of contraception too.
