INTRODUCTION
FLUNIL SUSPENSION contains Fluoxetine which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-depressants. FLUNIL SUSPENSION is used to treat major depressive episodes, obsessive-compulsive disorder (mental disorder) and bulimia nervosa (eating disorder).
Major depressive disorder is a mental health disorder characterized by a persistent and intense feeling of sadness for an extended duration of time. It mainly impacts mood, behavior and other physical functions, such as sleep and appetite.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder that is associated with repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and the urge to do things over and again (compulsions).
Bulimia nervosa is a serious eating disorder that is characterized by binge eating followed by methods to avoid being overweight such as vomiting, severe exercise or fasting.
Before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you have or ever had epilepsy or history of mania, diabetes, liver problems, heart problems, and glaucoma.
FLUNIL SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in pregnancy and breastfeeding women as it may harm the unborn baby. Consult your doctor for advice.
The most common side effects of taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION are insomnia, headache, diarrhea, feeling sick (nausea) and fatigue. Contact your physician if any of the above side effects worsen.

HOW FLUNIL SUSPENSION WORKS
FLUNIL SUSPENSION works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improves mood and physical symptoms of depression and relieves symptoms of panic and obsessive disorders.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take FLUNIL SUSPENSION as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION without consulting your doctor.

Stop taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
Self-harming thoughts
Rash or allergic reaction such as itching, swelling of face, neck, lips, tongue, mouth or throat causing shortness of breath, loss of consciousness and fever or shock
Fits or increase in seizure frequency
Symptoms of serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome such as fever with faster breathing or heart rate, sweating, muscle stiffness or tremor, confusion, extreme agitation, irritability or sleepiness
Restlessness and cannot sit or stand still (akathisia)
Drowsiness, weakness or confusion (mostly in elderly people)
Prolonged and painful erection
Heart problems, such as fast or irregular heart rate, collapsing, fainting or dizziness upon standing which may indicate abnormal functioning of the heart rate
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea or Vomiting:
Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. Contact your doctor if nausea and vomiting do not improve.
Diarrhea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for treating diarrhea. Contact your doctor if it did not improve.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water and electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.
Dizziness or Drowsiness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not drink alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness or drowsiness did not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
FLUNIL SUSPENSION is not recommended for use especially in the last 3 months of pregnancy as it harms the unborn baby. It should be used with caution during late pregnancy or just before giving birth. Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
BREASTFEEDING
FLUNIL SUSPENSION will be excreted through breast milk, hence it should be used with caution if it is clearly necessary. Your doctor will lower the dose accordingly. Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines as it may affect your judgment or coordination after taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
KIDNEY
FLUNIL SUSPENSION should be taken with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
LIVER
FLUNIL SUSPENSION should be taken with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
ALLERGY
Do not take FLUNIL SUSPENSION if you are allergic to Fluoxetine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
LUNGS
FLUNIL SUSPENSION should be taken with caution in patients with lung problems. Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
HEART DISEASE
FLUNIL SUSPENSION should be taken with caution in patients with heart problems or low heart rate. Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
OTHERS
Before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you:
Have or ever had epilepsy or fits
Have history of mania
Have diabetes
Have glaucoma
Have ongoing ECT (electroconvulsive therapy)
Have a history of bleeding disorder or blood clotting problems
Have diabetes
Have rare hereditary problems such as fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption and sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency
Use in pediatrics:
FLUNIL SUSPENSION is generally not recommended for use in children (under 8 years of age) and should be used with caution in children and adolescents (8 to 18 years of age) for the treatment of moderate to severe major depression. Â Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.
Use in geriatrics:
FLUNIL SUSPENSION should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 70 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION.

Before taking FLUNIL SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
Medicine used to treat depression (Ex. tranylcypromine, moclobemide iproniazid, phenelzine, nialamide, isocarboxazid, toloxatone)
Linezolid (used for bacterial infections)
Methylthioninium chloride (used to treat methaemoglobinaemia)
Selegiline (used for parkinson’s disease)
Lithium (used to mania)
L- tryptophan (used to treat premenstrual disorders)
Medicine used to treat epilepsy (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine)
Medicine used to treat migraine (Ex. sumatriptan)
Medicine used to treat heart’s rhythm (Ex. Class IA and III antiarrhythmics like quinidine and amiodarone)
Medicine used as antipsychotics (Ex. fluphenazine, pimozide, haloperidol)
Medicine used as antimicrobial agents (Ex. sparfloxacin, moxifloxacin, erythromycin IV, pentamidine)
Medicine used to treat malaria (Ex. halofantrine, mefloquine, chloroquine)
Medicines used to treat allergies (astemizole, mizolastine, mequitazine, cyproheptadine)
Medicine used for heart problems (Ex. flecainide, propafenone or encainide)
Nebivolol (medicines used for high blood pressure)
Atomoxetine (medicines used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
Diuretics Ex. chlorothiazide (medicines used to remove sodium and water from the body)
Desmopressin (medicines used to reduce the amount of urine produced by the kidneys)
Medicine used for depression (Ex. tricyclic antidepressants like imipramine, desipramine, amitriptyline, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors Ex. citalopram, escitalopram) and or St John’s wort (herbal medicine)
Medicine used to treat breast cancer (Ex. tamoxifen)
Medicine used to thin the blood (Ex. warfarin)
Medicines used to treat pain (Ex. ibuprofen, aspirin, diclofenac, tramadol)
Medicines used to treat certain mental disorders (Ex. clozapine, risperidone)
Metoprolol (medicines used for heart failure)
Buprenorphine/naloxone (medicines used for opioid dependence)
Bupropion (medicines used to stop smoking)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of FLUNIL SUSPENSION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage are nausea, vomiting, fits, heart problems (including irregular heartbeat and cardiac arrest) lung problems and change in mental condition ranging from agitation to coma.
