INTRODUCTION
AMPANEL 6 contains Perampanel which belongs to a group of medicines called anti epileptics which is used to treat epilepsy (repeated fits or seizures). Epilepsy is a disorder of central nervous system (neurological) where the activity of the brain becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations, and sometimes loss of consciousness. It blocks a receptor in the brain known as the glutamate receptor. Glutamate is called a neurotransmitter that acts to excite nerve cells in the brain. AMPANEL 6 by affecting or blocking these glutamate receptors in the brain suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.
This medicine is used in association with other antiepileptic drugs to treat certain forms of epilepsy in people aged 12 years and older. Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine as it may cause dizziness or sleepiness. It is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Before taking AMPANEL 6, tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver problems, depression or suicidal thoughts and if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding. Your kidney function may need to be tested often while taking this medicine.
